Before 1973, Hanoi agricultural university carried out reseearch on creating hybrid maize, but did not get any successes. Learning from the former unsuccessful experiences, during these 20 years, we have conducted simultanously 2 programs: The OPV development and hybrid development. On the basis of this sound orientation, from 1990 to 1994, series of maize hybrids being accepted by farmers with enthusiasm have been put into trials and production trials: non - conventional hybrids such as: early LS3, LS5; medium maturing LS4, LS6; late maturing LS7, LS8 and conventiinal maize hybrids such as: early LVN1, LVN2 medium maturing LVN6, LVN11, LVN12, LVN20; late maturing LVN10, LVN15, LVN19
