Studies were conducted in some mountainous provinces (Hoa Binh, Son La and Lao Cai) of northern Vietnam in order to investigate the species composition of insect pests of non-astringent varieties of persimmon (Fuyu and Jiro). The survey recorded 18 insect pests, belonging to 14 families and 5 orders on Fuyu and Jiro varieties. Nine species, viz., clearwing moth Ichneumenoptera sp.; leafeating moth Hypocala subsatura, Hypocala rostrata; beetle Hypomeces squamosus, Adoretus tenuimaculatus, Platymycterus sleversi, Colasposoma dauricum, mealy bug; oriental fruit fly Bactrocera dorsalis and sting bug Homoeocerus sp. are the most important pests.
