The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical effect and the safety of scalp acupuncture combined with "Cao thong u" in treating huyenvung syndrome (chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency - CCI). The results showed that the method had a significant effect on reducing clinical symptoms of CCI according to the Khadjev scale: After treatment, Khadjev scale in research group had decreased from 30.76 +/- 3.13 to 16.28 +/- 3.85; in control group from 71 +/- 2.99 to 18.92 +/- 4.08. The improvement of demenxia test and Pittsburgh scale in study group were better than control group. During 30 days of treatment there were no unexpected effects on clinical indication. In Conclusion, scalp acupuncture combined with "Cao thong u" had effect on reducing symptoms of huyenvung syndrome without side effect.
