Objectives: studying current situation of students' active learning at pre-clinical departments of Thai Binh Medical University. Subjects: 403 students including 106 second year students, 97 the third year students and 198 fourth year students. Methods: Cross-sectional study. Results and conclusions: 73 percent students have not yet equipped active learning methods adequately. Foreign language's competence of students is weak. Students are not sufficiently able to find documents in library and on internet. Most students lack of team work skills. Learner are not always activated by Teaching methods of pre-clinical department. There are insufficient learning materials. Evaluation methods have not yet activated students to learn actively.
