Dưới triều Nguyễn, Hà Tiên là địa đầu biên giới có liên hệ trực tiếp đến công cuộc xây dựng, phát triển và bảo vệ chủ quyền lãnh thổ của đất nước trên vùng biên giới Tây Nam. Do đó, triều Nguyễn đã ra sức đẩy mạnh các hoạt động xây dựng và củng cố hệ thống các cơ sở phòng thủ trên vùng đất này nhằm tăng cường tiềm lực quốc phòng nơi đây. Mục đích của bài viết này là phục dựng lại diện mạo hệ thống cơ sở phòng thủ trên vùng đất Hà Tiên như một phần quan trọng trong công cuộc bảo vệ và phát triển vùng biên giới Tây Nam của triều Nguyễn trong giai đoạn 1802-1859. Thông qua công tác sưu tầm - phê bình sử liệu, phương pháp lịch sử kết hợp với phương pháp logic, kết quả nghiên cứu làm sáng tỏ hệ thống cơ sở phòng thủ của triều Nguyễn trên vùng đất Hà Tiên với hai tuyến phòng thủ trên bộ và hải đảo. Kết quả nghiên cứu góp phần nhận thức toàn diện hơn về chính sách quốc phòng của triều Nguyễn trên vùng biên giới Tây Nam trong giai đoạn 1802-1859.

Ha Tien was a borderland under the Nguyen dynasty that was intimately tied to the construction, development, and protection of the country’s territorial sovereignty in the southwestern border region. As a result, the Nguyen dynasty attempted to push operations to cre-ate and strengthen the system of defense facilities on this region in order to improve its defense capacity. The purpose of this article is to reconstruct the appearance of the defensive base system on Ha Tien land as an important aspect of the Nguyen dynasty’s defense and development of the southwestern border region f-rom 1802 to 1859. Through the work of collecting and criticizing historical documents, historical methods combined with logical methods, the research results shed light on the defensive base system of the Nguyen dynasty in the land of Ha Tien with two lines of defense, including land and islands. The findings give a better understanding of the Nguyen dynasty’s defensive policy on the Southwestern frontier region f-rom 1802 to 1859.
