Nowadays, new technologies have been substantially applied in construction. Transportation, irrigation and civil projects have been gradually controlled stringently by engineers in all stages of their life cycles (from preparation, design, construction, operation to demolition). The study of electromagnetic sensor technology in monitoring building structures has been widely applied by Institutes and University serving for researching purposes. There is a trend in the world today that owners of buildings desire to understand the real working conditions of the structures so as to adjust their operational activities accordingly as well as the safety of the structures. As such, the application of electromagnetic sensors in Structural Health Monitoring System (SHMS) to monitor the working of high rise buildings and skyscrapers have been effectively used in some countries such as The United State of American, Japan, etc. This paper will provide an overview of SHMS in monitoring the working of high rise building and propose some of its applications in Vietnam.
