Experimental infection with a dose of 10 exponent 3 LD50 of a virulent strain of duck plague herpesvirus isolated from a natural outbreak in rice field scavenging ducks in O Mon district of Can Tho province was carried out in Pekin and Muscovy ducks. The results showed that clinical signs, gross and microscopic lesions were nearly similar in both Pekin and Muscovy ducks. Clinical signs of DVE in Muscovy ducks were not typical as in Pekin ducks, diarrhoea and laboured breathing were common, but paralysis and subcutaneous oedema of head were rare. Changes in oesophageal mucosa of Muscovy ducks were not severe as in Pekin ducks while intestinal mucosa and liver surface haemorrhage were usually expressed in Muscovy ducks. Median lethal doses determined in 6 and 10 week - aged Muscovy ducks were 10 exponent 6,0 and 10 exponent 6.5 MDLD50/ml, while in Pekin ducks of the same age were 10 exponent 6.7 and 10 exponent 7.0 DLD50/ml.
