Pyrularia edulis, a member of the genus Pyrularia (Cervantesiaceae), has been recorded in Bhutan, China, India (including Sikkim), Myanmar, Nepal and more recently in Vietnam. Several studies have been conducted to assess the species diversity and phylogenetic relationships of Pyrularia. However, currently, information on the morphological and anatomical c-haracteristics of Pyrularia, especially Asian P. edulis, remains limited and requires further investigation. The study, using specimens of Pyrularia edulis collected in Lao Cai, Vietnam, provides basic information on the ecological and anatomical c-haracteristics of this species. The results show that the anatomical structures of the stem, leaves, and roots of P. edulis are consistent with those of dicotyledons, but exhibit distinctive features, including the presence of collenchyma in the cortex of the secondary stem and calcium oxalate crystals in the stem and leaves. These anatomical features demonstrate the adaptation of P. edulis to the ecological conditions of a light-demanding plant of the order Santalales, typically distributed in forest-edge habitats.
