The article focused on analyzing the theoretical issues about students' needs for teachers' advice about studying under credit-based system; stating clearly the situation of these needs at University of Education - Thai Nguyen University such as needs of the advice's content, organization and types of advice. Based on the situation analysis, the paper has proposed a number of recomr.1endations to improve the effectiveness of academic advising at the University of Education - Thai Nguyen University which aims at helping students overcome the difficulties arising from their studying along with raising the quality of learning under credit-based system.
