The cross-linking process of the acrylic polyol resin (HSU.1908)/polyisocyanate (N.75) system in the presence of rutile TiO2 (R-TiO2) nanoparticles had been studied by fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTlR), pendulum hardness testing and gel fraction analysis. It was found that the cross-linking process was insignificantly influenced by the R-TiO2 nanoparticles. The conversion of isocyanate groups, the formation of urethane groups and the change of pendulum hardness of the coatings had rapidly occurred within the first 4 days. The optimum cross-linking time was 4 days. The highest value of pendulum hardness was 0.92 at the 2 percent content of R-TiO2 nanoparticles and the gel fraction was 97 percent.
