This study focuses on the preparation of liposome (Lip) as a DOX delivery system for cancer therapy. The Lip prepared by sonication method was formed with an average diameter of 223.3 nm determined by dynamic light scattering (DLS). Atomic force microscopes (AFM) demonstrated that Lip with spherical shape was clearly obtained. The drug loading efficient of Lips and drug loading content of Lip/DOX were 76.3 +/- 5.7 percent and 6.9 +/- 0.5 percent respectively. The release test showed that there were significant time prolongations of DOX release ftom the Lip/DOX. In addition, the MTT assay indicated that Lip was a biocompatible delivery vehicle which reduces the cytotoxicity of DOX. The results indicated that such Lips have great potential as a novel drug delivery system for cancer therapy.
