Oral anti-fungal drugs are effective in the treatment of pityriasis versicolor. This study aimed to evaluate the comparative efficacy of pulsed and daily oral intraconazole in treatment of pityriasis versicolor. 80 patients were divided into 2 groups. In the pulsed treated group, patients were treated of 400 mg oral itraconazole / month for 2 months. In the daily treated group, patients were treated of 200 mg itraconazole / day for 7 days. The pulsed treated group with good result showed 97.5 percent and 92.5 percent after 4 weeks and 8 weeks, respectively. The daily treated group with good results noted 97.3 percent and 95 percent after 4 weeks and 8 weeks, respectively. The efficacy had not significant difference in both groups. Fungal negative KOH test in pulsed treated group (92.5 percent) was significantly higher than result in daily treated group (77.8 percent). Both groups had no any harmful side effects. Conclusion, pityriasis versicolor should be treated by pulsed itraconazole.
