The VNREDSat-1 remote sensing satellite's main mission is to monitor natural resources, environment and disasters. After more than 2 years of in-orbit operation, the satellite has taken images not only over Vietnam but also other parts of the world with high image quality to serve the increasing needs of Vietnamese Ministries and Agencies. The image database at the Imaging Receiving Station and the Data Back-up Station is growing every day, but information regarding this database has not been widely distributed among users due to the closed nature of the system. In this paper, the authors discuss the creation of a tool to circumvent the closed design of the system and to provide information of the system to the users. In addition, the analysis of the VNREDSat-1 images also allows providing some information on the potentials on socio-economic development, and national defense and security.
