Objective: To evaluate primary results of flow diverter stents in treating intracranial aneurysms. Subject and method: 13 patients with unruptured wide neck saccular or fusiform intracranial aneurysms were treated with Pipeline flow diverter stents. Immediate results and follow-ups were evaluated with clinical symptom and DSA. Result: 13 patients (5 males and 8 females), aged from 11 to 66 (on the average of 50.1; SD 15.1), with 17 unruptured aneurysms, in which 15 were wide neck saccular (88.2 percent) and 2 were fusiform (11. 8 percent). The diameter of aneuryms ranged from 4.3 to 35mm (on the average of 10.9 mm, SD 8.7). There were 15 lesions (88.2 percent) located at the internal carotid system and 2 lesions (11.8 percent) at the vertebrobasilar system. Pipeline stent (Covidien, USA) was the unique device used for all aneurysms. Technical success gained in 100 percent of the cases without intra-procedural complications. 01 patient suffered from ipsilateral mild ischemic stroke at the 3,d day of post intervention due to the cessation of anti platelet drugs and totally recovered with intensive medical treatment. The follow-up time ranged from 1 to 31 months (on the average of 9.1 months). Post-intervention DSA showed total occlusion in 80 percent (9/15 aneurysms) at 3 months and in 100 percent (11/11 aneurysms) at 6 months with normal flow in parent arteries. There were 02 patients with mild to moderate instent stenosis, 01 patient suffering from aggraved pontine infarction and no death. Conclusion: Primary results of using flow diverter stents of Pipeline shows high efficacy and safety in treating unruptured intracranial aneurysms.
