Taro leaf blight has been recorded as a serious disease in Northern and Central parts of Vietnam. In this study, ten isolates of Phytophthora colocasiae obtained from leaf blight samples in five Taro cultivation areas were described for morphological characteristics and pathogenicity tests. Results indicated that a few different characters was identified in morphology between P. colocasiae isolates collected from Colocasia esculenta var. esculenta and Colocasia esculenta var. antiquorum. Sexual reproduction was made with two mating types presented Ao and A1 in isolates. The high temperature tolerance of isolates could related to host varieties. In a greenhouse condition, Colocasia esculenta var. esculenta grown in Trang Bom (Dong Nai) showed a high resistance with P. colocasiae PTBD08-c1.
