Along with economic development and urbanization of Thai Nguyen city is the increase in household waste and environmental pollution. Results of surveys and researches showed that the total amount of residential waste in Thai Nguyen city generated averagely about 206 tons/day, 73.327 tons/year, of which those in the central area accounts for 55 percent, those in the South area accounts for 31 percent, those in the North is 14 percent. Average collection rate citywide is 68 percent. Perccntages of waste recycled, reused include: 56.6 percent organic matters, 7.91 percent plastic, 1.97 percent metals, 5.93 percent wastc paper. These are great renewable resources that can be recycled, reused to both increase economic efficiency and ensurc environmcntal issues. If residential waste is collected, managed, recycled and reused properly, revenues each year from domestic waste of the city may reach about 48 billion VND.
