Automated data collection of asphalt concrete pavement distress is gradually being interested in Vietnam. Imports of advanced technology from foreign countries for road management will need large investment costs. The local research should be done step by step from simple to complex to solve practical issues posed. This paper studies and develop a procedure to identify an area of some simple pothole, a popular form of road distress. The procedure evaluation results show that the error is good enough to be able to take further research steps.
