As the official language of the Vietnamese people, Vietnamese has thousands of years of history. Through many stages of development, Vietnamese has overcome all obstacles to become a rich and beautiful language, with identity and full of potential. The process of integration and development entails contact and mutual influence between cultures, including languages. This is also a common phenomenon. This exposure, on the positive side, has contributed to enriching the vocabulary of the national language, especially new terms in the fields of science, engineering and technology; make more diverse forms of communication, and in some ways, it helps US to have quick access to advanced technology, developed cultures. However, besides the positive contributions, this exposure also significantly affects the integrity of the Vietnamese language. One of the remarkable changes of the Vietnamese language is the rapid increase in English loan words. The question is how to make the values of language culture not be negated by the development of civilization and vice versa. That means we can both take advantage and accept that penetration as an objective necessity while preserving the purity of the Vietnamese language. This article would like to highlight the current situation and suggest what should to be done to achieve both of those goals.
