This study was aimed to identify the QTLs related to drought tolerance in Vietnam local rice. The 130 plants of F2 population derived from a cross between Khau noong mo and Q5 were used for this study. The F23 population was grown for phenotypic evaluation under irrigated control. Standard evaluation system for drought sensitivity at vegetative stage (SES-IRRI) was used to evaluate the score of leaf rolling, leaf drying and plant recovering over the drought period. Young leaf samples from F2 plants were collected for DNA extraction using NaOH method. Two hundred and five SSR markers on chromosomes 2,4,8,9,11 were used for parental survey but only 48 markers showed clear polymorphism (23.41 percent). Twenty six of those polymorphic markers were used to conduct DNA fingerprinting of F2 population. Three phenotypic traits under drought condition were used for conducting a QTL analysis with single-factor analysis of variance method (ANOVA). It is found that a total of 7 QTLs located on chromosomes 4, 8, 9 and 11 related to drought tolerance, among them: 3 QTL conferring leaf rolling, 2 QTL for leaf drying and 2 QTL for plant recovering. The F2 population will be further analyzed to determine the association between SSR marker and phenotypic traits under drought in Vietnam local rice variety.
