Cây Râu mèo hay cây Bông bạc (Orthosiphon aristatus) là vị thuốc Đông y có tác dụng điều trị bệnh sỏi thận, hạ đường huyết, chữa viêm thận cấp tính và mãn tính, thống phong, thấp khớp, viêm gan, đái tháo đường, chống lại tế bào ung thư… Bài báo này trình bày kết quả nghiên cứu ảnh hưởng của nhóm chất auxin và giá thể đến khả năng tạo rễ và cây Râu mèo hoàn chỉnh nhập từ Lào nhằm góp phần xây dựng quy trình nhân giống in vitro để phát triển loài cây này ở Việt Nam. Công thức môi trường thích hợp nhất cho sự tạo rễ cây Râu mèo là môi trường MS cơ bản + agar 9 g/l + sucrose 30 g/l +  -NAA 0,8 mg/l, với số rễ/chồi là 10,80 rễ, chiều dài trung bình của rễ là 5,21 cm sau 8 tuần nuôi cấy. Giá thể phù hợp để cây in vitro ra ngoài môi trường tự nhiên là đất thịt trung bình + cát + trấu hun tỉ lệ 211.

Orthosiphon aristatus is well- known for a popular medical plant with the uses to treat kidney stones, hypoglycemia, acute and chronic nephritis, gout, rheumatism, hepatitis , diabetes mellitus, cancer … This article presents the results of effects of auxin, substrates on root formation, growth and development of Orthosiphon aristatus from Laos in order to contribute to finding a in vitro multiplication process to develop this plant in Vietnam. The optimum medium fomula for the root formation of Orthosiphon aristatus is the basal MS medium supplemented with - NAA 0.8 mg/l, a number of roots per a shoot are 10,80, the medium length of a root is 5.21cm after 8 culturing weeks. The suitable medium for them to develope at the nursery stage before growing in the massproduction is medium soil sand burned husk with the ratio of 2 1 1.
