So sánh kết quả của GTNMC ngực có hỗ trợ của siêu âm để xác định khe liên đốt sống với GTNMC ngực thường quy dựa vào mốc giải phẫu. Nghiên cứu thử nghiệm lâm sàng ngẫu nhiên có đối chứng trên 63 bệnh nhân phẫu thuật ngực trên tại bệnh viện Đại học Y Hà Nội từ tháng 4 – 8 năm 2018, nhóm I 31 BN GTNMC có hỗ trợ của siêu âm; Nhóm II 32 BN GTNMC thường quy. Kết quả cho thấy tỷ lệ phù hợp giữa xác định vị trí khe liên đốt sống trên MGP so với trên SÂ là 63,3%. So sánh kết quả của GTNMC có hỗ trợ của siêu âm so với GTNMC thường quy số lần chọc kim qua da và sự đổi vị trí khe đốt sống ít hơn, tỷ lệ GTNMC thành công sau lần chọc đầu tiên cao hơn, mức độ đau sau mổ (điểm VAS) thấp hơn. Kết quả ban đầu cho thấy GTNMC có hỗ trợ của siêu âm có kết quả tốt hơn GTNMC thường quy dựa vào mốc giải phẫu.
