Objective: Determine the rate and some factors related to surgical site infections (SSls) after cardiac surgery at National Hospital of Pediatrics (NHP). Subjects and methods: a prospective descriptive study on 423 patients with cardiovascular surgery from 09/01/2011 to 08/31/2012 at Surgical ICU of NHP. Determine the rate of SSIs classified as CDC 1996. The study variables related to SSIs as age, sex, ASA score, NNIS score, form of surgery, duration of surgery, the CRP before and after surgery, malnutrition, pneumonia ... Results: The rate of SSls in cardiac surgery patients is 4.96 percent, which is 2.4 percent superficial incisional, and deep SSls was 2.6 percent. Factors associated with SSls by univariate analysis were found to be: younger children (p = 0.0126), lower body weight (p = 0.0335), the form of open-heart surgery (p = 0.006), time surgery lasting more. than 120 minutes (p = 0.0023), back surgery (p = 0;007), higher CRP before and after surgery (p = 0.0481). Conclusions: The rate of SSls after cardiac surgery at NHP is 4.96 percent. Factors related to SSIs in cardiac surgery patients: young age, low body weight, open heart surgery, prolonged surgical time, back surgery, high CRP before and after surgery.
