The South Central Vietnam has numerous competitive advantages in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows; nevertheless, in fact, the region has not yet been considered an attractive destination for foreign investors. The article focuses on analyzing the current situation of FDI attraction in the region. The research results indicate some key characteristics of FDI inflows in the region including: (i) FDI inflows in the region are still limited in terms of both the number of projects and size of investment capital; (ii) The allocation of FDI flows among localities in the region is uneven; (iii) The number of countries and territories in the world licensed to invest in the South Central Vietnam is diverse; and (iv) FDI flows in the region are primarily allocated in industrial parks, construction areas, and tourism services. Based on the analysis, the article identifies some barriers in attracting FDI inflows to the South Central region in the new context.
