Purpose: To assess the results of bipolar resection of the prostate in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia in 103 hospital. Patients and Methods: A desciptive cross-sectional study was performed on 64 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia who underwent bipolar resection of the prostate from November 2012 to June 2013; the main endpoints were IPSS, QoL score, Qmax and PVR. Results: Mean operation time 36.5 mins, mean hospital stay 5.3 days, mean catheterization time 4.3 days; clot retention 4.7 percent; no tranfusion, no mortality. The LUTSs improved significantly after 1 month, 3 months; 3-month efficacy of treatment: excellent, good, fair and poor were 65.1 percent, 19 percent, 12.7 percent and 3.2 percent, respectively. The rate of bladder neck contracture and urethral stricture (at meatus) were 4.8 percent and 9.5 percent, respectively. Conclusion: Bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate is a safe, effective procedure in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
