In this study, the desalination ability of Sesuvium portulacastrum L. was evaluated via a hydroponic experimental system with different salinities of 0‰, 10‰, 20‰ and 30‰. The effect of salinity on the growth of Sesuvium portulacastrum L., its desalination ability, and the accumulation of salts in plant tissues were investigated. The results showed that, the higher the salinity concentration, the more Sesuvium portulacastrum L. grew and the more salts it accumulated, especially in the leaves. The desalination ability of Sesuvium portulacastrum L. was reported to be in the range of 52.29% and 73.23% corresponding to salinity concentrations ranging from 10‰ to 30‰. These data illustrate the potential application of Sesuvium portulacastrum L. in desalination.
