As a result of our field surveys, we recorded four species of Asian keelback snakes for the first time from several provinces of northeastern Vietnam, Hebius boulengeri and H. igneus from Cao Bang province, H. chapaensis from Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang provinces and H. cf. khasiensis from Tuyen Quang and Quang Ninh provinces. Morphological differences were also found in newly collected specimens in comparison with those in previous studies, Hebius chapaensis has 117 subcaudals in the specimen (IEBR R.5111) collected in Na Hang, Tuyen Quang province (vs. 90–114 in previous studies), temporal scales 2+2 in the specimen (IEBR R.5109) collected in Bac Me, Ha Giang province (vs. 1+1 in previous studies) and H. igneus has fewer orbital scales 1/1 (vs. 2/2 in previous studies). Additional data about the natural history of newly recorded species were also provided.
