Background: There are three main methods of facial morphological analysis namely direct measurement, analysis on standardized photographs and Xray images analysis. Among those, photographic analysis has been increasingly used because of its advantages of accuracy and cost-effectiveness. Objectives: Describe some of facial characteristics, sizes and indexes in a group of high school students at age from 15 to 18 at Chu Van An High School, Hanoi in 2012. Methods: cross-sectional analysis among 146 high-school students. Results: in study group, there are three types of facial morphology: oval, square, triangle with different proportions. Oval face accounts for the highest proportion in both male and female. Regarding seven facial sizes measured in this study, results show that most of facial sizes are greater in male than in female, except naso-frontal angle and convex surface angle of female students are bigger than male students. Comparison between two different age groups (16 and18 years) in each gender shows that most of facial indexes haven't statistically changed. Conclusions: There are three main facial types: square, oval and triangular, of which oval face accounts for the highest proportion. Three facial layers are unequal; the upper third has the greatest value. Facial dimensions and angles in male are greater than in female. Facial proportions measured in the study differ from neoclassical standards. Facial growth from 16 years of age to 18 years of age does not change much and growing speed is slower than previous period.
