Upland soils are occupied to 2/3 of natural land area of Vietnam. This is ecologically diverse regions, rich in potential but very vulnerable. Due to climate change and other pressures cultivated food crop of mountain farmers has led to increasing loss of soil productivity, more land is eroded, hardened, discolored and reduced crop yields. Sustainable cultivation methods on sloping land such as soil covering, making mini-terraces combined with soil mulching and intercropping are easy, cheap, effective and beneficial techniques for agricultural development in the mountainous regions. To study the ,relation between springtails (Collembola) with these techniques, field trips were carried out in maize trials in Son Thinh commune, Van Chan, Yen Bai. All results are analysed and discussed based on indexes such as species composition, density, H' index, J' index. In general, sustainable cultivation on slopping land, bio-ecologically, which combines mini-terraces and the soil covering and intercropping is the best suitable model for growing maize in Yen Bai mountainous region.
