The ground beetle Ophionea indica (Thunberg) (Coleoptera: Carabidae) is a predator that plays an important role in controlling population of many common pests caused hann to rice, peanut, vegetables, bean and maize in Nghe An province. The O. indica mature females lay eggs scattered, each female often has 3 laying egg periods in a lifetime, with 10-15 eggs per period. The pupation of O. indicais is often in soil or on the ground. The daily predation rates for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd instar larvae and adult were 1.33, 2.52, 3.72 and 2.93 preys, respectively. O. indica lives 66-71 days in the temperature of 20°C and 82 percent RH, however, their life time can last longer to 75-80 days in the temperature of 28°C and 73 percent RH. In the laboratory condition, O. indica can diet 12-18 days, an average 16.72 days.
