The paper presents the results of applying remote sensing and GIS to map forest cover in Dong Phu district, Binh Phuoc province. Using satellite image Sentinel 2A taken on 14th March 2021 and 200 sample plots belonging to 14 forest status and forest land for satellite image interpreting. Applying the object-oriented classification method with the support software eCognition Developer to decompose satellite images of the study area into 40,200 objects through training samples and calculating vegetation indexes (NDVI). Besides, 150 additional points were evenly distributed over forest states to verify the post-classification map. As the result, the forest cover map was established with an accuracy of 74%. The total forest area of the study was 20,386 ha, of which the state of afforestation has the largest area of 11,032 ha, accounting for 54.17%. The results of this paper are good references for studies on the application of satellite images in forest classification, management, and monitoring of forest resources.
