Hoang luc plant, the root of a species belong to genus Zanthoxylum L.. is known as a traditional medicine for treatment of arthritis, back pain, and toothache of local people living inthe moutainous area of Bac Giang province. In this study, the scientific name of this species was identified as Zanthoxylum nitidum (Roxb.) DC. The root internal structure and powder characteristics were described. There were two alkaloids isolated from the root. The structure of the isolated alkaloids was identified as dihydrochelerythrin (HL-I) and nitidin (HL-2) on the basis ofNMR. MS spectral analysis and in comparison with those of the published literatures.
