Thirteen naphthol AS-X, including two new substances and thirteen naphthol AS-X chloroacetates, including eleven new substances have been synthesized. Esterase staining results showed that all thirteen prepared naphthol AS-X chloroacetates were active with myeloid leukemia celIs, in which the substrates containing electron pushing substituents in ortho position of phenyl ring has a higher sensitivity than those linking with the electron attracting group. The esterese staining results also showed that naphthol AS-OL chloroacetate is more sensitive than naphthol AS-D chloroacetate circulating on the market.
