The Vu Gia - Thu Bon river system which located in Quang Nam and Da Nang city is one of the river systems that has complex morphological evolution. The riverbank erosion, meandering cutoff have caused negative impacts to social and economic activities in the region and to residents living along the river. In this study, a series of satellite imagesobtained from 1973 are used to analyze trends in the river evolution in 5 periods: 1973-1990, 1990-2001, 2001-2007, 2007-2013. The study have identified areas of strongevolution, which caused influence to people's livelihood, socialeconomic. The study also proposessolutions for riverbank erosion monitoring which providing data for planning, prevention and mitigate the damage caused by riverbank erosion in future.
