Different poly(L-lactide), PLLA powders were synthesized by ring opening polymerization under vaccum with the presence of stannous actanoate as a catalyst. Degree of polymerization was investigated with initial ratio of catalyst and monomer, as well as reaction time. Molecular structure of the synthesized PLLA were characterized with capilary viscometer, FT-IR and H-NMR. The results revealed a rather high molecular weight PLLA of 25.000 g/mol has been obtained after 24 hours reaction. Themal stability of this typical PLLA was also analysed using DSC and TGA.
