School counseling is an important activity in high schools with the central role of school counselors. This field has received research attention to various aspects. This article presents an overview of literature on school counseling and school counselors in general education based on the collection and analysis of scientific articles published in international scientific journals in the Scopus database from 1925 to 2022. With the bibliometric methods, a dataset consisting of 406 documents was identified. After that, refining the given data finally left 332 documents suitable for analysis. The results of the analysis revealed research collaborations by country, collaboration among researchers, and key research topics of the field. From there, the research team has made some recommendations on the application of the school counseling model in Vietnam based on some reviewed studies. The results, as well as recommendations of this study, will have important referential meaning for not only high school administrators and staff who are carrying out counseling work in schools, but also for policymakers on school counseling in high schools.
