Impact of motivation, opportunity and ability in the social media on the intention to stay at green hotels in Da Nang

The recovery strategy for the hospitality industry during and post COVID19 pandemic is receiving a lot of attention from governments. For this issue, developing green hotels and applying social media in green communication strategy are considered practical solutions of the industry. Although the “green hotel’’ concept is not novel, the application of “green” to practices in Vietnamese hotels in both theoretical and practical terms is still limited. By extending the Motivation — Opportunity -Ability (MOA) model into the social media context, this study investigated visitors’ intention to choose green hotels from 249 Vietnamese tourists staying in 4-5-star hotels in Da Nang city’. The results show that all the MOA factors positively influence Green Trust, which in turn increases the intention to stay at a green hotel. The study provides a number of important practical implications for green hotels in using social media to enhance tourists ’ trust and intention to stay.
