The study of mammal diversity in Pu Hu Nature Reserve was conducted from 2008 to 2013, survey periods: 9 April-10 May 2008,12 June-17 July 2008,13-28 August 2011,2-25 October 2012 11 April-19 May 2013. Totally, 16 survey sites were established throughout the Nature Reserve special focus in Pu Hu mountain area with vast primary and little affected evergreen forests at altitude 500 to 1200m as!. The surveys recorded 67 mammal species, belonging to 24 families and 9 orders. There are species which were recorded in previous study (1998) could not be re-recorded by this study and therl not included in the current list of mammal species of Pu Hu Nature Reserve. They are White-cheel Crested Gibbon (Nomascus Jeucogenys). Tiger (Panthera tigris), Cloudy Leopard (Panthera pardus), I dog (Cuon alpines) and Sambar (Rusa unicolor). These species are possibly locally extinct from Nature Reserve, Mammal fauna of Pu Hu Nature Reserve has high conservation significance with 20 species enli in Red Data Book of Vietnam (2007) and 15 species of them are listed in 2012 IUCN Red List. biodiversiw values of Pu Hu Nature Reserve are facing a number of severe threats including wildlife hunting/trapping, forest clearing for agricultural cultivation, illegal timber removal, over harvesting of rm-I timber forest products, free-ranging cattle raising and infrastructural development, especially, currently built Trung Son Hydropower Project.
